A non-invasive ultrasound scan to assess the health of the carotid arteries in your neck, crucial for identifying stroke risk.
Stroke is a devastating event, and often, there are no warning signs. Our Carotid Artery Scan provides vital insights into your vascular health, helping to identify potential risks before they become critical. Located at 29 Weymouth Street, Marylebone, our clinic provides same-day diagnostic ultrasound with written reports.
A Carotid Artery Scan is a duplex ultrasound examination that uses sound waves to create images of the carotid arteries in your neck. It assesses blood flow, identifies plaque build-up, and measures any narrowing (stenosis) that could impede blood supply to the brain.
Upon arrival at our clinic at 29 Weymouth Street, Marylebone, you'll be greeted by our friendly reception team and complete a brief registration.
Your HCPC-registered sonographer will discuss your medical history and explain the procedure in detail, answering any questions you may have.
You'll lie comfortably on a couch while the sonographer applies a small amount of gel to your neck. A transducer will then be moved gently over the skin to capture images of your carotid arteries.
The sonographer will assess the blood flow, look for any plaque, and measure the degree of any narrowing in real-time using our state-of-the-art GE Voluson equipment.
After the scan, the sonographer will provide an initial summary of the findings and advise on the next steps, if necessary.
Within 24 hours, you will receive a comprehensive, written report from a consultant radiologist, detailing all findings and any recommendations. Your sonographer will also provide an initial verbal summary immediately after your scan.
Our HCPC-registered sonographers are available Monday to Saturday. Results discussed immediately, written report within 24 hours.
