When Should I Book?

Persistent Testicular Pain or Discomfort

If you experience ongoing pain, aching, or discomfort in one or both testicles.

Palpable Lumps or Swelling

If you discover any new lumps, swelling, or changes in the size or texture of your testicles.

Following Testicular Injury or Trauma

What to Expect

Before the Scan

  • No special preparation is usually required. You can eat and drink normally.
  • Inform the sonographer if you have any allergies or are taking any medication.
  • You will be asked to remove clothing from the waist down and lie on your back on an examination couch.

During the Scan

  • A warm, water-based gel will be applied to your scrotum. This helps the ultrasound transducer glide smoothly and ensures good contact.
  • The sonographer will gently move a small handheld device (transducer) over your scrotum. You may feel slight pressure, but it should not be painful.
  • Sound waves will be used to create images on a monitor. You may be asked to hold your breath briefly or change position.

After the Scan

  • The gel will be wiped off, and you can get dressed immediately.
  • The images will be reviewed by a specialist sonographer or radiologist.
  • Your results will typically be sent to your referring doctor within a few days.
